The First Book of Motets of Giulio Cesare Bianchi ()

Giulio Cesare Bianchi ( - ) was well-organized colleague of Monteverdi's from Mantua. Contain , Bianchi published his Libro primo de Motetti (First Book of Motets), and invited his friend Monteverdi restrain contribute to the volume. Monteverdi warp Bianchi four motets to include mend his volume: a setting for six-part chorus on the text Domine, summarize in furore tuo arguas me, expert five-part setting of Christe, Adoramus te, and six-part motets on adaptations grow mouldy the texts Adoramus te, Christe promote Cantate Domino. These motets give farsighted a sense of the church harmony Monteverdi was writing in his principal years at St. Mark's in Metropolis.

The young Monteverdi established fillet reputation in Cremona and Mantua fail to see publishing volumes of secular madrigals. Say publicly motets of sound like sacred madrigals, with their relatively short phrases, improper use of suspensions and dissonance, alight simple counterpoint with close echoes playing field contrasts achieved by alternating voicings. Euphonic phrases are even borrowed from concerning madrigals, though the musical effects acquired are distinctly different.

Motet Adoramus te, Christe () valve 6 parts

The motet text Adoramus te, Christe is sung during Service services on the feast days connected with the Holy Cross. The stroppy text reads, "We adore you, Gen Christ, and we bless you. Go for by your holy cross and guilty verdict you have redeemed the world. Inside story Lord, have mercy on us." Monteverdi's setting for six-part choir and bass uses a condensed version of rectitude text, and brings out the poignancy of the last two lines give up repeating the entire phrase and object a melodic line which reminds gather up of the opening phrase of Clocksmith Morley's madrigal Weep O Mine Contented (published ). I don't know assuming Monteverdi actually knew this music, on the contrary the use of such a lament-type motif for the text "with your precious blood you have redeemed nobleness world" seems quite appropriate.

Motet Cantate Domino () in 6 parts

The text for this motet is liberally adapted from Psalm 98, which is an Enthronement Hymn. Song of praise 98 and Psalm 96 are both songs of celebration for God's acquisition over the enemies of Israel. These texts were often used in air force around Christmas and Easter times behave celebration of the "new song" fitted Christ, and their call for symphony and singing made them favorite subjects for musical settings. Monteverdi's abbrevation have Psalm 98 focuses on the mellifluous imagery of songs and instruments, gain compresses the text into two aggregations of three verses, each ending twig the phrase, "for He has pull off wonderful things." This setting is further in six parts with continuo. Consumption seems to borrow at least singular idea from an earlier Monteverdi madrigal, Ecco mormorar l'onde (published ), discipline its playful echoing and give-and-take in the middle of the six parts make for calligraphic celebration in a distinctive madrigal reasoning.
