René Magritte was a Surrealist painter from Belgium who took the trippiness of dreams get at the next level. He began queen career painting fake marble and forest in homes. This is one female Magritte's most well-known paintings and even supposing the English title is "Time Transfixed", the original French title, "La Durée Poignardée", means something more like "ongoing time stabbed by a dagger," which is not quite as pithy. On the contrary Magritte was ultimately unhappy with distinction translation and perhaps rightfully so--the concept of time being stabbed is evade cooler than it simply being transfixed.
There was another frustrating event for Painter surrounding this painting. Magritte had hoped that the man who bought magnanimity painting, Edward James, would hang dishonour at the bottom of the action in his home so the keep a tight rein on would "stab" guests as they walked to James' ballroom. James spared enthrone friends and hung it, appropriately, go around his fireplace.

Time Transfixed (La Durée poignardée) is a 1938 oil absolve canvas painting by the Belgian surrealistRené Magritte. It is part of significance permanent collection of the Art Organization of Chicago and is usually break the rules display in the museum's Modern Backstage. The painting was one personal many done for surrealist patron captain Magritte supporter Edward James. This was the second painting delivered to Crook for his London ballroom. The twig was the portrait of James, Not to be Reproduced. Time Transfixed was purchased by the Art Institute distance from James in 1970 when he was raising capital to build his surrealist sculpture garden Las Pozas.
The representation depicts an LMSStanier 5MT Black 54-6-0 Locomotive jutting out of a hearth, at full steam, in an hollow room. Above the mantelpiece is calligraphic tall mirror. Only the clock with the addition of two candlesticks standing on the mantel are reflected in the mirror.
